Motorhome Essentials Checklist: Campervan Equipment And To Do Lists

Don’t leave home without it … a complete set of travel checklists

April 10, 2018 //  by Jane

Are you a list maker? Not everyone is. Some people just like to wing it and see how they get on. And let’s face it, at the end of the day if you have your passport, a credit card and your mobile phone then you can’t go far wrong (assuming you remembered to pack your charger of course!).

But most of us do like a good campervan checklist. Your motorhome is a complicated vehicle, and if you are about to head off for several weeks, then you probably do want to make sure you have packed all your motorhome essentials. Plus there are a number of checks you should run through before you set off.

Then how many times have you set off and thought “ooops, fridge is still on, the skylight is open …. and when I left home did I lock the back door?” So it can be useful to have a checklist you run through each time you pitch up, or are about to set off for the day. Plus one for the day you leave home.

Essentials For Your Motorhome Holiday: Our Campervan Holiday Checklists

We do not expect you to laboriously print off and follow all these motorhome checklists. But hopefully if you have a quick scan through then you can see if there are things you have forgotten. Or maybe things you had not even thought of. And because everyone is an individual, we have uploaded the excel version for you to edit, as well as a pdf version. For example, we don’t have any pets. But if you do then you will have quite a few extras to add on that we haven’t thought of.

Motorhome Checklist: Weeks/Days Beforehand

In the run up to a big holiday, there are a few things to organise. Checking all is well with your vehicle, getting your medication ahead of time. That sort of thing.

Essential Motorhome Equipment

These motorhome equipment checklists are the ones we run through to check we have packed everything.

Leaving Your Home – The Anxiety Antidote

When you finally drive your campervan off into the sunset, you don’t want to sit and worry that you forgot to put the bin out, or turn the gas off! So I always print off one of these checklists and physically tick the boxes. Then I know we are good to go without a care …

Vacating Your Pitch

This is probably the list we need the most, and then forget to use! But when you have packed up after a stop and are ready to drive off, it is worth running through this checklist. It will save crawling round the van after you have set off hastily shutting cupboards and securing loose objects.

What’s On Your List?

To be honest, everyone’s set of checklists are going to be different. The above are not cast in stone, we update them as we change equipment or update the van. But hopefully they are a good start, and you can use the excel spreadsheets as a basis to create your own perfect motorhome essentials checklist.

Elsewhere on the web, different clubs and bloggers have uploaded their own personal lists. This is a useful checklist on the Camping and Caravan Club site, and they have other useful stuff for newbies too.
